Projects: CIE Toolkit
The general objective of the project is to reduce the burden of disease related to chemical emergencies through improved public health response. This is to be achieved by strengthening national and international public health response. The over-arching aim of this project is to facilitate the rapid and effective response to acute chemical incidents by providing a source of relevant material, in the form of a toolkit, along with a training manual enabling participating members states to address specific training needs.
It involves preparing and publishing a body of material that provided specific guidance and training to public health professionals on how to respond to a chemical incident and deal with the subsequent public health consequences. The proposal will expands the scope of the GSCT and ETHREAT projects by including additional topics related to chemical incidents and emergencies.
The CIE Toolkit project proposal relates to the Generic Preparedness and Response strand of the 2007 work plan an will build on two on-going projects funded by the Public Health Programme: The Development of Generic Scenarios, Alerting System and Training Modules Relating to the Release of Chemicals by Terrorists (GSCT) and the European Training for Health Professionals on Rapid Responses to Health Threats (ETHREAT) both of which aim to enhance the capability of responding to health threats in a timely and coordinated manner.
This project will deliver a toolkit containing source material for both the provision of background knowledge and furthering existing expertise in areas relevant to planning, preparedness, response and recovery relating to chemical incidents. A training manual will be included which will contain source material, training modules and guidance on how to construct and conduct training courses that address the users own specific need.
